Welcome to Carinthia: Mountain bikers paradise

The “Nockbike” region is a goldmine for mountain bikers. The diverse terrain of this southern corner of the Alps offers plenty of adventure for beginners, families, mountain climbers and even the hardcore fanatics. And bikers are certain to be thrilled with Carinthia’s breathtaking panoramic views.

The region offers over 1,000 km of sign-posted and secure bike trails, which stretch from Nockberge/Bad Kleinkirchheim past Lake Millstätter See, into the Liesertal and Maltatal Valleys, as far as Katschberg. Those looking for the ultimate adrenalin rush can join one of the freeride tours, which take you around Bad Kleinkirchheim, onto exhilarating downhill passages and single tracks, via Feld am See. The family-oriented cycle path around Lake Millstätter See invites parents and kids to enjoy a relaxing tour. You can also learn more about “Seeberührungen”: an energising therapy, which roughly translates as “touching the lake”.

" Carinthia Cycle Marathon" - Sunday, 30th May 2010

The well-known spa resort of Bad Kleinkirchheim formed the start and end point of the race with a total of 106 km and 2,150 m altitude to conquer between the start and finish lines. The core of the route was the 35 km long panoramic road which runs through the Nockberge National Park and is home to two challenging mountain classifications in the form of the Schiestelscharte (2,024 m above sea level) and the Eisentalhöhe (2,042 m above sea level), not forgetting the unique Alpine landscapes. The first cyclist was awarded the title of ‘Kleine Zeitung Nockalm King' on the Eisentalhöhe.

The Krainer Sport school offers mountain bike tours from April to October:

After completing the first leg of your tour, you can enjoy a well-earned break on the banks of any of the region’s splendid warm-water lakes.
